By car

Renting a car of your choice/budget makes your life easier/flexible. You can choose the time to start the hike and return in a comfortable way with your friends/family back.

  • If you go by car the only way back is the ferry from Agia Roumeli to Sougia and then board the public buses who are waiting for the passengers to return from Sougia to the entrance of Samaria Gorge where you can pick up your car​. Your estimated time of arrival is ​approximately at 7.30 in the evening.
  • You can buy your tickets at the Coffee Shop at the entrance of the gorge for the ferry and the bus back.
  • There are two parking lots at the entrance of the gorge charging 5 euros/day with someone to look after your car.
  • Upon your return with the bus from Sougia you can still find the Coffee Shop open and you can use the restroom or buy drinks or snacks.
  • The alternative to the boat and the Public Bus is the taxi boat, and the taxi accordingly or any combination with the boat and the Public Buses.

If you want to hike Samaria Gorge and you travel by Public Bus you have two options.
After the hike, in Agia Roumeli village you either take the boat to Sougia which is cheaper and faster, or you take the boat to Chora Sfakion.
